Expert Picks: The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay

Mental fortitude will be required once again at The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay. The weather should not pose quite as much as a challenge as last year, when tournament champion Kyle Thompson was the only player in the field under par, but the potential for storms and 20-mph winds should once again keep players on their toes throughout the week.

Among the top-10 finishers in Exuma last year, four went on to rank in the top 40 in driving accuracy, greens in regulation and scrambling on Tour. Additionally, none of last year’s top-10 finishers in Exuma ranked top-40 in driving distance. It seems that accuracy over power is the name of the game at the Greg Norman-designed Sandals Emerald Bay GC, and the majority of our Experts’ selections reflect that trend.

Every week of the 2018 Web.com Tour Regular Season, each of our Experts will select a four-player team for that week’s event.

No player can be selected more than three times by any one Expert during the Regular Season.

Here are this week’s Expert Picks for The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay.

The beginning of the season tends to favor veterans and Bulle will be riding a wave of momentum from finishing T5 at the Qualifying Tournament in December. He finished T13 in Exuma last year, despite some crazy wind, and that experience is sure to pay off this year.

The wily veteran arrives in Exuma emboldened from his runner-up finish in 2017, and he’ll embrace every challenge presented throughout the week.

I like Lebioda’s record on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica and the Mackenzie Tour last year. Familiarity with overseas travel will be key as players shake off the rust in Exuma. I think the former ACC Player of the Year grabs the first Web.com Tour victory of 2018.

Picking up where he left off.

STEPHEN ANDRESS

Web.com Tour Digital Producer

Dan McCarthy

Chris Baker

Dan McCarthy

Each of these selections was a top-20 scrambler last year, but Dan McCarthy was one of only two Web.com Tour players last year to finish in the top 20 in scrambling, driving accuracy and greens in regulation. He was also one of only three players in last year’s field to shoot 75 or better in all four rounds.

Putt for dough, especially if we see conditions similar to last year.

He has the oldest caddie in the field. Experience will pay off this week.
